NCT ID NCT04931017

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether metformin, a safe and widely used diabetes drug, can lower the risk of lung cancer in overweight or obese former smokers who are at high risk. About 50 participants will take metformin for 6 months to see if it reduces certain immune cells linked to tumor growth. The goal is to find a simple, low-cost way to prevent lung cancer in this vulnerable group.
