First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tested whether metformin, a common diabetes medicine, can reduce the thickening of the uterine lining caused by tamoxifen in postmenopausal women with estrogen-positive breast cancer. Sixty women who had been taking tamoxifen for at least a year were randomly assigned to add either metformin or a placebo. Researchers measured uterine lining thickness with ultrasound over 12 months to see if metformin made a difference.
