First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tests whether metformin, a common diabetes drug, can slow or prevent calcium buildup in the leg arteries of people with type 1 diabetes. About 230 adults with type 1 diabetes and no severe kidney disease will take either metformin or a placebo for two years. The goal is to see if metformin reduces artery calcification, which can lead to poor circulation and amputation.
