Cancer-Fighting combo falls short: early trial halted

NCT ID NCT03076281

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tested whether metformin (a diabetes drug) and doxycycline (an antibiotic) could help treat head and neck cancer when taken before surgery. Only 7 people enrolled before the study was stopped early. The main goal was to see changes in cancer-related proteins, not to cure the disease. Because the study was terminated and had very few participants, we cannot draw strong conclusions about the drugs' effectiveness.
