Cancer drug combo trial halted early: what did we learn?
NCT ID NCT02874430
First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether combining two common drugs—metformin (a diabetes medicine) and doxycycline (an antibiotic)—could help treat localized breast or uterine cancer. The goal was to see if the drugs could change certain proteins in the tumor that might slow cancer growth. The trial was stopped early, and only 29 people took part, so the results are limited and not enough to recommend this as a standard treatment.
