Diabetes drug tested as potential shield against Post-Cataract cloudiness

NCT ID NCT07176338

Summary

This study aims to understand if the common diabetes medication metformin reaches the eye's lens and can slow the growth of cells that cause cloudy vision after cataract surgery. Researchers will collect lens tissue and blood samples from 40 patients with type 2 diabetes and cataracts who are already taking metformin. They will measure metformin levels in these samples and test its effect on human lens cell growth in a lab dish to see if it could help prevent a common long-term complication.
