NCT ID NCT04099511
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a metacognitive strategy training approach called CO-OP to help people who had a stroke improve their ability to perform daily activities and reduce motor impairment. Seventy-two adults who had a stroke within the past 9 months were randomly assigned to either the CO-OP training or usual occupational therapy. The training focused on using cognitive strategies to solve problems during tasks, with the goal of improving performance on both trained and new activities.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- metacognitive strategy training (Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance approach)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this training could offer a practical way to help stroke survivors regain independence in daily activities and improve motor function.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial (72 participants) comparing a new approach to usual care. Results may not apply to all stroke survivors, and the training may not lead to lasting improvements.
