New program aims to help refugee and underserved moms with depression and birth control
NCT ID NCT07659509
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding mental health screening and family planning counseling to routine baby check-ups helps new mothers. About 920 migrant, refugee, and underserved women in Jordan will take part. They will be screened for postpartum depression, receive support or referrals, and get birth control advice. The goal is to see if this approach increases use of modern contraception and reduces depression symptoms.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Integrated mental health screening, psychosocial support, and family planning counseling
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a practical way to improve both mental health and contraceptive use for new mothers in underserved communities.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral intervention study, not a drug trial, so results may vary by setting. It is early-stage and focuses on a specific population in Jordan, so findings may not apply elsewhere.
