Summary

This study tests whether combining low-intensity resistance training with maximal mental effort—imagining a full-force muscle contraction during each exercise—can improve strength and muscle function more than low-intensity training alone. Researchers will enroll 75 older adults with functional limitations and poor lower-body strength who have not exercised in the past two years. Participants are randomly assigned to one of three groups: low-intensity training, low-intensity training with mental effort, or a control group. The goal is to see if the mind-muscle connection can enhance physical gains without heavy lifting.
