First seen Apr 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This Phase 3 trial tests a new vaccine against four types of meningococcal bacteria (A, C, Y, W135) that cause meningitis in infants aged 6 to 11 months. About 1,040 healthy babies will receive either the experimental vaccine or a licensed comparator. Researchers will check immune responses and safety after two doses and a booster at 18 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Group ACYW135 Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine

What this could lead to

If successful, this could provide a safe and effective vaccine option to protect infants against four types of meningococcal bacteria that cause meningitis.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage Phase 3 trial, and the vaccine may not prove as effective or safe as the existing licensed vaccine. Results are based on immune markers, not actual disease prevention.
