Sleep aid before surgery could cut painkiller use

NCT ID NCT04791943

Summary

This study tested whether taking melatonin (a natural sleep hormone) for three nights before wisdom tooth surgery could help reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers afterward. Sixty young adults having wisdom teeth removed received either melatonin or a placebo pill before their procedure. Researchers measured their pain levels, medication use, and stress to see if melatonin made recovery easier.
