New program aims to help kids with leukemia take their daily chemo
NCT ID NCT06323044
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests MedSupport, a program designed to help families of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia give their child daily oral chemotherapy at home. Missing even a few doses can raise the risk of cancer returning. The program uses a special pill bottle cap that tracks when medication is taken, along with interviews and surveys, to identify and address barriers to adherence. Researchers will enroll 150 families to see if MedSupport improves medication-taking over one year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
MedSupport intervention (a behavioral support program using a medication event monitoring device, interviews, and surveys)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a practical tool to help families give their child's daily chemo more consistently, potentially lowering the chance of cancer relapse.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (150 participants) testing a behavioral intervention, not a new drug. Success depends on families' willingness to engage, and results may not apply to all settings.
