Mediterranean diet tested for brain and body benefits in seniors

NCT ID NCT06287489

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This completed trial tested whether a 3-month Mediterranean diet could improve thinking and physical abilities in 57 older adults who feel their memory is slipping but still score normally on tests. Participants ate either a Mediterranean diet or their usual diet, then switched. Researchers used brain scans and blood tests to explore how the diet might work.

Mediterranean diet

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary approach to help maintain thinking and physical abilities in older adults worried about memory decline.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 57 participants. The diet lasted only 3 months, so any benefits may be short-lived or not apply to everyone. Results are not yet published.
