New keyhole breast cancer surgery could offer better looks, same safety
NCT ID NCT07539545
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new type of breast-conserving surgery that uses a small camera inserted through a hidden armpit incision to remove tumors, compared to the standard open approach. About 1,366 women with early-stage breast cancer will be randomly assigned to one of the two surgeries. The goal is to see if the new method leads to fewer complications, better cosmetic results, and similar cancer control over five years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Minimal accessory-incision-assisted endoscopic breast-conserving surgery
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a less invasive surgical option for breast cancer that improves cosmetic results while maintaining safety and cancer control.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial comparing surgical techniques, not a new drug or cure. The procedure may not reduce recurrence risk or could have unforeseen complications. Results may not apply to all breast cancer patients.
