First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study aims to accurately measure how much energy critically ill patients use while in the ICU. Many ICU patients are malnourished, which can lead to worse outcomes. Researchers will use a special water test (doubly labelled water) that tracks energy use through urine samples. The goal is to improve nutrition plans and help patients recover better.
