First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a virtual, 8-session group therapy program can help cancer patients find meaning and reduce emotional distress. Researchers at MD Anderson Cancer Center will enroll 72 adults with a history of cancer. Participants will attend weekly 90-minute sessions over Zoom led by a psychologist.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Meaning-Centered Group Psychotherapy (MCGP)
What this could lead to
If this works, it could provide a practical, virtual therapy option to help cancer patients cope with emotional distress and improve their quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 72 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy is supportive, not a treatment for cancer itself.
