New feeding strategy may stop dangerous leak after cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT07616245

First seen Jun 03, 2026 · Last updated Jun 03, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether using a special type of liquid food (MCT) through a feeding tube right after surgery for esophageal cancer can prevent a complication called chyle leak. A chyle leak happens when lymph fluid leaks into the chest, which can slow recovery and require extra treatments. The study will compare MCT-based feeds to standard feeds in 160 adults to see which group has fewer leaks.
