Personalized pain therapy: One-Size-Fits-All may be over
NCT ID NCT05699252
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether matching adults with chronic pain to specific psychological treatments—like cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, or hypnosis—based on their personal traits (such as brain activity or thinking patterns) leads to better pain relief. Researchers will study 331 participants to find out which factors predict who benefits most from each therapy. The goal is to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach and toward personalized pain care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Hypnotic Cognitive Therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors choose the best psychological treatment for each person with chronic pain, improving pain relief for many.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study focused on finding patterns, not testing a new treatment. Results may not lead to a simple matching tool, and individual responses vary.
