Maraca magic: simple shake may ease Toddlers' needle pain

NCT ID NCT07248852

First seen Dec 11, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether having children aged 1 to 3 shake a maraca with the arm opposite to where a blood draw is happening can reduce pain. The idea is that the movement distracts the child and may lessen pain and the need for restraint. The trial will compare this distraction method plus usual care against usual care alone in 160 children at multiple hospitals in France.
