Chill out: cold neck trick may ease IV pain for obese patients
NCT ID NCT07253961
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a simple, drug-free way to reduce pain when getting an IV in people with obesity (BMI over 30). Researchers will apply a cold marble stone to the side of the neck for 5 seconds before inserting the IV. They believe this may stimulate the vagus nerve and lower pain. 150 adults having elective surgery will take part, with half getting the cold treatment and half getting standard care. Pain levels and vital signs will be compared between the two groups.
