Smart radiation: mapping lymph nodes to spare healthy tissue in head and neck cancer

NCT ID NCT03968679

First seen Feb 04, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tests a way to make radiation therapy more precise for people with head and neck cancer. Doctors use a special scan (SPECT/CT) to see which lymph nodes drain fluid from the tumor. If the scan shows no drainage to the opposite side of the neck, that side can be safely left out of the radiation field, reducing side effects. About 90 patients will take part to see if this approach is safe and effective.
