Jaw fracture study tests which wire works best

NCT ID NCT07153120

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compared three devices used to wire broken jaws together: Erich arch bars, IMF screws, and hybrid arch bars. Twenty-four adults with mandibular fractures were randomly assigned to one of the three devices. The goal was to see which device provides the best stability and is quickest to apply. Results could help surgeons choose the most effective tool for jaw fracture repair.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Erich arch bars, IMF screws, and hybrid arch bars (devices used to wire jaws together)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help dentists and surgeons choose the best device for jaw fracture repair, improving stability and reducing complications.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The devices are already in use, so no major breakthrough is expected.
