A new bone plate design aims to improve healing of broken jaws
NCT ID NCT07736430
First seen Jul 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares a new type of titanium bone plate, called a pin buckle plate, with standard miniplates for fixing fractures in the front of the lower jaw. Twenty adults with simple, single fractures will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two plates during surgery. Researchers will track pain, swelling, wound healing, and bone density on CT scans to see if the new plate leads to better recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a titanium pin buckle bone plate for internal fixation of jaw fractures
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this new plate design could offer a simpler, more stable way to fix certain jaw fractures, potentially reducing complications and improving recovery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 20 participants. The new plate may not prove better than standard care, and any device carries risks of infection or implant failure.
