Art therapy during chemo: mandala painting may ease fear and pain in young cancer patients
NCT ID NCT07363005
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a parent-child mandala painting activity during chemotherapy could reduce fear and pain in children with cancer and ease the burden on their caregivers. 108 children aged 5-12 and their parents took part, with half doing six 30-minute painting sessions over two weeks. The goal was to see if this creative, non-drug approach could improve emotional well-being during a tough treatment process.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
parent-child mandala painting sessions
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help children feel less fear and pain during chemotherapy and support their parents' emotional well-being.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 108 participants, so results may not apply to all children. The effect may be modest and not replace standard medical care.
