Can mindfulness ease joint pain from breast cancer treatment?

NCT ID NCT06728579

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two group therapy programs—Mindfulness Oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE) and Supportive Psychotherapy—to help breast cancer survivors manage joint pain caused by aromatase inhibitors. About 200 women will attend weekly two-hour sessions for eight weeks and fill out questionnaires about pain, fatigue, anxiety, and quality of life. The goal is to see if these therapies can reduce pain and help women continue their medication.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Mindfulness Oriented Recovery Enhancement (MORE) and Supportive Psychotherapy (SG) - both are behavioral group therapy programs

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer breast cancer survivors a non-drug way to reduce joint pain and stay on their prescribed hormone therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a Phase 2 trial with 200 participants, so results are still preliminary. The therapies may not work for everyone, and benefits may vary.
