New magnetic tracer aims to reduce side effects in breast cancer lymph node biopsy
NCT ID NCT06610539
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a magnetic tracer called Magtrace for sentinel lymph node biopsy in women with breast cancer who are having a lumpectomy. The main goal is to see how often skin discoloration happens and how it affects patients' quality of life. Researchers will follow 184 participants for up to 24 months to track outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Magtrace (magnetic tracer)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that Magtrace is a safe and effective alternative to standard dyes or radioactive tracers for lymph node mapping, with manageable side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (184 participants) focused on side effects and patient experience, not on curing cancer. Skin discoloration may still be a common issue, and results may not apply to all breast cancer patients.
