Could magnesium be the key to saving critically ill patients?

NCT ID NCT07173855

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study looks at whether keeping magnesium levels higher or lower in critically ill patients (like those with severe infections or heart attacks) can help them live longer and avoid a common heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation. About 3,250 ICU adults will be randomly assigned to one of two magnesium replacement protocols. No extra tests or tasks are required—just standard care with different magnesium targets.
