Could low magnesium worsen brain recovery after stroke?
NCT ID NCT05132517
First seen Nov 01, 2025
Summary
This study looks at whether low magnesium in the blood is linked to thinking problems after a stroke. Researchers will measure magnesium levels and test memory, attention, and other cognitive skills in 80 stroke patients over 72 days. The goal is to understand if magnesium deficiency plays a role in recovery, separate from the stroke itself.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

If it works, this could clarify whether low magnesium contributes to cognitive problems after stroke, pointing toward future treatments.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study with only 80 participants, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all stroke patients.
