MRI access for pacemaker patients: landmark safety study launches
NCT ID NCT07189728
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This registry will enroll 1,500 adults with pacemakers or defibrillators to see if it is safe to have an MRI in situations not yet well studied, such as with older leads or at higher magnetic strengths. Participants will be monitored for heart rhythm changes and other complications during and after the scan. The goal is to provide evidence that could expand MRI access for millions of patients who currently may be denied this imaging.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could expand MRI access for many patients with pacemakers or defibrillators who are currently denied scans.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational registry, not a treatment trial. It only collects data on risks and may not change practice if no clear safety signal emerges.
