New study aims to make heart devices smarter, reducing painful shocks

NCT ID NCT05426785

First seen May 22, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests two different settings in implantable heart devices (ICDs) for Japanese patients at risk of dangerous heart rhythms. One group gets early pacing pulses to stop fast rhythms, while the other uses a longer detection delay before pacing. The goal is to see which approach reduces the need for painful shocks and is safe. About 398 participants are involved, and the results will help improve device programming.
