Could X-Ray vision replace lung cancer marker implants?
NCT ID NCT04086082
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new technology that uses x-rays to track lung tumors during radiation therapy, without needing to implant markers in the lung. About 30 people with early-stage lung cancer or a few lung metastases will take part. The goal is to see if the markerless tracking is accurate enough to guide the radiation beam in real time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this technology could make lung cancer radiotherapy more precise and less invasive by removing the need for implanted markers.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase feasibility study with only 30 participants. The technology may not work as well as hoped, and results may not apply to all patients.
