NCT ID NCT07325513
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a machine learning algorithm can predict the best way to deliver repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to reduce headaches and body pain in veterans with Gulf War Illness. 140 veterans will receive 13 active rTMS sessions over 3-4 months, and their pain, mood, and function will be tracked. The goal is to replace the current trial-and-error approach with a personalized treatment plan.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a personalized, non-drug treatment to ease chronic headaches and body pain in veterans with Gulf War Illness.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study with 140 participants, and the machine learning model may not improve outcomes. rTMS can cause mild side effects like headache or scalp discomfort.
