New drug may cut transfusions for rare bone marrow disorder

Summary

This study tests a drug called luspatercept in 70 adults with a certain type of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) that causes severe anemia. The goal is to see if the drug can reduce or eliminate the need for regular red blood cell transfusions. Participants receive the drug by injection, and researchers track how many become transfusion-free for at least 8 weeks.
