Lung ultrasound may Fine-Tune fluid removal in dialysis patients
NCT ID NCT05132036
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a simple lung ultrasound can accurately detect fluid overload in people on hemodialysis. 46 patients had an ultrasound before their regular dialysis session, and the results were compared to other standard tests. The goal is to help doctors better determine how much fluid to remove during dialysis, which could improve heart health and reduce complications.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simpler, non-invasive way to guide fluid removal during dialysis, potentially improving heart health and reducing complications.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed observational study, not a treatment trial. The ultrasound method needs further validation in larger, more diverse groups before it can replace current practices.
