Ultrasound breakthrough could spot deadly lung complication early in scleroderma
NCT ID NCT04725786
First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 17 times
Summary
This study tested whether a chest ultrasound, a safe and painless tool, can find early signs of lung disease in people with systemic sclerosis (scleroderma). Lung disease is a leading cause of death in this condition, and current detection methods like CT scans have drawbacks. The study involved 30 adults with scleroderma who had no known lung disease, using ultrasound to look for specific markers of lung damage.
