New scans aim to spot lung trouble in tiniest babies before it starts

NCT ID NCT07265583

Summary

This study is testing if two non-invasive scanning methods can predict which premature babies will develop a serious, chronic lung disease called bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Researchers will use a special electrical scan and an ultrasound on 104 very small, premature babies who are breathing with non-invasive support. The goal is to see if these scans, done in the first two weeks of life, can spot early signs of uneven lung inflation that might lead to BPD later.
