New study aims to sharpen lung cancer staging, spare patients unnecessary surgery

NCT ID NCT01786590

First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two ways to check if lung cancer has spread to lymph nodes in the chest: a standard CT/PET scan versus a minimally invasive scope test called EBUS-TBNA. The goal is to see which method is more accurate for patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer who are scheduled for a precise type of radiation (SBRT). About 150 adults with confirmed lung cancer will take part. Better staging could help more high-risk patients get effective, less invasive treatment.
