AI-Powered chest X-Rays could revolutionize lung cancer screening in latin america

NCT ID NCT07524803

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will enroll 2,000 people aged 50 or older in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Argentina who are at high risk for lung cancer due to smoking, wood smoke exposure, family history, or COPD. Participants will get a chest X-ray analyzed by artificial intelligence and a low-dose CT scan to see if the AI can help decide who needs follow-up scans. The goal is to improve early detection of lung nodules in a region where screening guidelines are still being developed.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Low-dose CT scan and chest X-ray with AI analysis
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that combining AI with chest X-rays helps identify who needs a CT scan, making lung cancer screening more accessible in Latin America.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not prove that screening saves lives, and results may not apply to other regions or risk groups.
