Summary
This study aims to create a detailed 'atlas' of the earliest cellular changes in the lungs that can lead to cancer. Researchers will enroll 240 high-risk current or former heavy smokers and perform repeated lung examinations over 2-3 years to collect tissue samples. The goal is to understand how lung cancer develops at its earliest stages, which could eventually lead to better prevention and detection methods.
