Light beam targets lung tumors after radiation in new cancer trial

NCT ID NCT06306638

Summary

This study tests a two-step treatment for patients with advanced cancer tumors that block the main breathing tubes in the lungs and cannot be removed by surgery. First, patients receive standard low-dose radiation to shrink the tumor. Then, they receive a special light-sensitive drug followed by a laser light treatment delivered directly into the tumor through a bronchoscope. The goal is to better control the tumor growth and improve breathing while trying to avoid the serious side effects of high-dose radiation alone.
