Fingerprick COVID-19 antibody test put to the test
NCT ID NCT04597047
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study checks whether a fingerstick blood test for COVID-19 antibodies gives the same results as standard lab tests using blood from a vein. About 42 people who recently had a positive COVID-19 PCR test will provide both fingerstick and venous blood samples. The goal is to see if the quick, easy fingerstick method is accurate enough for use at point-of-care sites like doctor's offices.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If accurate, this fingerstick test could make COVID-19 antibody testing faster and easier at clinics and pharmacies.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small study (42 people) focused on test accuracy, not treatment. The test may not perform as well in larger, real-world settings.
