Green anesthesia: can we use 80% less gas and still keep patients safe?
NCT ID NCT07628231
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study will measure how much sevoflurane (an anesthesia gas) is used when ventilators are set to a very low fresh gas flow of 0.3 L/min. Researchers want to see if this ultra-low flow saves resources without affecting patient care. Data from 30 adult surgery patients will be compared to historical data from higher flow rates.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help establish safer, more eco-friendly anesthesia practices by reducing waste of anesthetic gases.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply broadly. It does not test a new treatment or direct patient benefit.
