Summary

This study tests whether using a low electrical current (3 or 5 milliamps) during thyroid surgery helps surgeons locate and avoid damaging the nerve that controls the voice box. About 150 adults having their first thyroid surgery will be randomly assigned to one of two current levels. The main goal is to see if this technique reduces the number of patients with permanent voice loss six months after surgery.
