First seen Feb 27, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving the sedative lorazepam early can prevent delirium (sudden confusion) in intensive care patients who may have a history of heavy alcohol use. Researchers will use a blood test called the Anttila-Index to identify 260 high-risk adults. The goal is to see if preventive treatment reduces the number of patients who develop delirium during their ICU stay.
