Hidden virus in the nose linked to long COVID brain fog?

NCT ID NCT05220241

Summary

This study aimed to understand if the COVID-19 virus could persist in the lining of the nose (olfactory mucosa) in people suffering from long-term neurological symptoms like 'brain fog' after their initial infection. Researchers compared 51 adults who had COVID-19, some with lasting neurocognitive complaints and some without, to see if the virus was still present. The goal was to gather knowledge about a potential cause of long COVID symptoms, not to test a treatment.
