New light therapy combo aims to soothe dry eyes
NCT ID NCT07239128
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether low-level light therapy (LLLT) plus non-steroidal immunosuppressant eye drops can help people with dry eye disease. 160 participants received three weekly light sessions along with either cyclosporine or tacrolimus drops. The goal was to see if the combination improves symptoms and tear film stability better than drops alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Low-level light therapy (LLLT) and topical cyclosporine A or tacrolimus
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new, non-invasive way to manage dry eye symptoms and improve eye comfort.
What could go wrong
This is a very early (Phase 1) study with no results yet. The benefits may be small or not better than existing treatments, and light therapy devices are not widely available.
