Liver scan could free transplant patients from risky drugs

NCT ID NCT07206277

Summary

This study aims to see if a special ultrasound scan (FibroScan) can help doctors safely reduce the amount of strong anti-rejection drugs that liver transplant patients must take for life. These drugs prevent organ rejection but can cause serious long-term side effects like kidney problems, diabetes, and heart disease. Researchers will use the scan to select 50 stable patients who are at least 2 years post-transplant and try to lower their medication by 30%, monitoring them closely for safety.
