Sugar shock test reveals hidden liver secrets during surgery
NCT ID NCT07326865
Summary
This study aims to understand how the liver responds to sugar in people with obesity who are having weight-loss surgery. Researchers will compare 40 patients with and without fatty liver disease (MASLD), giving some a sugar solution and others salt water during surgery, then taking small tissue samples before and after. The goal is to learn why fatty liver disease develops and how the liver reacts to sugar, which could lead to better understanding and future treatments.
