New test aims to better gauge severity of failing livers

NCT ID NCT01907074

Summary

This study tested a new method to measure how well a severely damaged liver is working. Researchers gave patients two forms of a substance called cholate, one by mouth and one by IV, and tracked how quickly the liver cleared them from the blood. The goal was to see if this test could provide a more accurate picture of liver disease severity than standard tests to help doctors make better treatment decisions.
