New scan could replace needle biopsies for liver disease

NCT ID NCT07440511

First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated Apr 15, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study is testing a new, non-invasive scanning method that measures spleen stiffness to better detect and monitor advanced liver scarring in people with fatty liver disease (MASLD). Researchers will follow 500 adult patients with confirmed or suspected advanced liver disease to see if this scan can accurately predict serious liver complications over time. The goal is to find a safer, easier alternative to invasive liver biopsies for tracking disease progression.
